""Pontius, after having read my hendecasyllables, you ask how such a serious person as myself could write such a thing, and I do assure you I am not frivolous. To start with, I have always been a devotee of poetry and I composed a Greek tragedy at the age of fourteen. Of its quality, I cannot say, but indeed it was a tragedy. Later, as I stranded on the Isle of Icaria due to inclement weather on my way back to Rome from military service, I composed several elegiacs using the island the sea as themes, as well as an attempt at an epic after the fashion of Virgil. This is my first attempt at hendecasyllables. And how came I to make it? While I at my house at Laurentum, I was listening with the usual intensity of glee and awe to this newest work of Mental and was moved to compose a work of sublime quality and one that I would not hesiate to read at a public recital. Such thoughts, admitedly coloured in vanity and thoughts of glory animated my stylus. This was the result. '..time to write.
