Kamakura
Hole in the wall anguish 01:34/192k
You know when you're skint as a barrack room rat? Quietly, obsequiously you approach ... deep down you know what's going to happen, and yet still there's a glimmer of hope. Plays: 1222 -->please comment (0).

Kamakura
Prodigy 04:16/192k
Written during the Midummer Night's Germination Festival. I'm not entirely happy with the lyrics, but by then it was too late! It is supposed to be ironic... Get it? Credits: Kamakura - Midsummer Nights Germination Mix. Includes loops by: Cystem, Mental Anguish. vox, vocals. Genre: Electronica. Created: 17 Jun 2006 05:47 PM. Plays: 1581 -->please comment (1).

Kamakura
A Buzzy Tale 03:14/192k
This is very silly, but I enjoyed it hugely.warning given ;) This is a homage to all the 'Buzzies' out there, and a lot of shows including the goons, python, Little Britain, and many many more.
It is not really danceable ;) Oh, and be warned, there might be more episodes... My 8th track
Credits: Kamakura, Buzzsaw Open Loops, 24 Hour Flu, Free Loops Project 13, with voice and vocals, vox. Genre: So Far Off The Wall It's Down The Street. Created: 11 Sep 2005 08:05 PM. Plays: 1516 -->please comment (6).

Kamakura
Zen Variations 02:06/192k

Our hero lives near the sea, and often walks along the beach when he has something to think about.. It always helps. As he walks the sounds that surround him are constantly changing, somethimes intrusively, sometimes not. This is my first true mix, in that I just used loops without adding to them. Track No 7.
Credits: Kamakura, Don Campau Guest Artist, Wallace Stevens, with Voice. Genre: Abstract. Created: 04 Sep 2005 11:03 AM. Plays: 1810 -->please comment (2).

Kamakura
World 02:35/192k

Don Campau I didn't know. Wallace Stevens I didn't know. Now I do, and I'm happier for the experience.
I'd always wanted to attempt a multiple harmony 'thing' and this seemed the perfect place to try it. All in all I'm happy, though this is top of my list of tracks to tweak when I get a moment.
The spoken word pieces were the muse food for this mix.
My 6th track
Credits: Kamakura, Don Campau Guest Artist, Wallace Stevens, with Vocals, vox. Genre: Alternative. Created: 27 Aug 2005 07:05 PM. Plays: 1883 -->please comment (2).

Kamakura Blog

Umm ... WTF? Oh! Yes, I see.

I am behoved to say I was confused when I arrived back at Tapegerm (after a long sojourn visiting other parts of the interweb) to find the site entirely changed. So entirely changed it was that I thought I'd entered the wrong address into my travelling machine. But no. I was in the right place. :)

I gather the design pixies have had at it: and very attractive the new Tapegerm is, too. Not quite so black: not so dark, broody, moody and bleak. Sad to say I haven't been here in a while. ut now i am I can't even find out if I need dosh to post more 'tunes' or if that requirement has gone as well.

Unless, of course, I really have travelled to another space-time-continuum. Maybe Buzzy is now President. The mind boggles. 8)

"Good to see you 'round these parts, man. Would be good to hear you 'round these parts as well."-- Blind Mime (on 03/10/12 21:08:45)

"yo man I don't really appreciate your pretense towards this collective. I'm recent on it, but uniquely there is something going on here. Walking in and proclaiming what you think about the past should be welcome to some open forum bullshit. So, in the vibe of Tapegerm I'd like to work on some of your tracks..."-- Indigents (on 03/10/12 01:13:07)

"We are all presidents, even you Kama. You have been gone a while and have been sorely missed but as always Tapegerm is ever ready to welcome back it's old citizens. There is an evolution going on at Tapegerm, membership is open to one and all, and while donations to the cause are appreciated they are not required. There are new features all over the place, particularly the Projects feature. Lots, lots more, but I'll leave it to you to discover. If you are confused, ask a question, if you are on Facebook, join the Tapegerm page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/tapegerm/ That forum would be better suited to question, answer and comment. Let's make some music."-- David Fuglewicz (on 03/05/12 20:19:53)

Dealing With Liquids

It's been an age and a half since I've been here. Oh, I've visited, but what's the use of that? Anyway. The part of me that's a real band - hmm, this could lead to serious therapy if I'm not careful - has recorded and released a stonkingly good album. 'Dealing With Liquids' is available through CDBaby, and from www.kamakura.co.uk. check it out and see what you think.

There will be a Tapegerm aficionado's deal up soon, which will be tantamount to a freebie. News to follow shortly.

Er Um Wibble

Firstly I need some headspace, 'cause this going to work malarkey is getting me down. Then secondly I need to make some damn desicions about which samples to use. Sheesh I've got Gigabytes now, and, like a kid in a sweetshop I don't know where to start... It's all too much for such a little brain.
Therapy beckons:
"You're from Tapegerm?"
"Yes."
"Hmm. I'm seeing a lot of people from there at the moment."
"Really?"
"Yes, and frankly it's not suprising. It's a new syndrome I'm calling 'Heuristically Cystematic Mental Anguish'. Unfortunately, like Loopitis, there's no cure. "
"Damn."

So. Where was I? Ah yes. Blogging

I could spend all day playing here. However the real world Kamakura is trying to take off, and the other half, Mick Dorey (Mick Dorey and the Sirens-'Paranoia Station' Illegal Records) gets angsty when I tell him I'm off doing Tapegerm stuff.
It's odd. When I began (as a drummer) I was totally in Mick's shadow. Now I'm not, which is good, though I still find it hard to believe him when he tells me so.
I want to write a musical, and another part to the Buzzy Tales muse permitting. Oh and now I have a HUGE quantity of drum loops (Omnitechnomatrix) and more Mental Anguish Loops and...
Never enough hours in the day!

MA5 New York

I uploaded a re-mixed version of this today.
The vocal beds better, it's smother, and it's probably as it should have been if I wasn't so impatient!

2000 somebody's

I looked at stats today (as you do) and was blown away to find that over 2000 people have listened to my stuff. So thank you to each and every one of you.

Who are these people I wonder
That download or stream my stuff
Do they know who they're listening too?
If they do then I'm really chuffed

Though I'm probably wrong I'll choose to surmise
They're very nice people, incredibly wise;
Who shop at versace and smell of channel
And love Kamakura 'cause he's cute and he's swell...

Oh hell.
I just wish I damn well knew who they were
Total strangers abound question marks all around

And when they listen what on earth do they think
Do they laugh? do they feel? do they get what I mean?
Or do they think SHIT! And move on to new tracks
If I don’t find out soon I think I might crack.

And there is the rub. I'll never know!

G-Day! And fun was had by all.

G-Day was big fun. I was amazed that so many good loops were created in such a short period of time, and as always I found it really hard to decide what to do.
As it started band on midnight UK time I played my cards cannily and went to bed instead. Waking up after a refreshing eight hours I immediately went back to bed. Finally I got up and booted up the mac to find it didn't recognise its keyboard. A royal pain. So downloaded all the loops on the pc and started to play with Fruity loops. Nada. Dumped the loops and thought again.
Muse said 'Balloons' and so it started...

I put together the backing in FL's wrote lyrics and thought I'd see if mac baby was any better. Damn me if she wasn't working perfectly.
To cut a long diatribe short I rendered the backing to wav, transfered it via zip to mac and it sounded awful with clippy bits. Seing as how I only used a few loops I spent the next hour rushing from pc to mac re-creating the song. Mmm! sounded good. Then I recorded the vocals, mixed and uploaded all with half an hour to spare!

Peachy!

Meanwhile others had got loads of damn mixes finished and up. I do not know how they do it!

All in all a good way to spend a day. The irc was good too. A nice bunch of people.

In hindsight:
1) I wish I'd got it together to create some loops
2) I should have written more than one song
3) Must MUST sort out my crappy computers
4) I'm very happy with the lyrics
5) Can't wait for the next event!

A Buzzy Tale

This was odd, and I don't mean he arrived at the opera wearing a pink tu-tu rather than a dinner jacket odd: I mean I wasn't sure if it would only be amusing to me.
Luckily others seem to have been mildly entertained as well, which is, I have to say, good!
Cystem suggested I carry on, and though I had thought in a rather abstract way about a serial, it wasn't serious. Now? who knows.
I can see Buzzy doing a lot of rather wonderful and weird things, but first of all he has to escape the revolution in Mexico..

Don Campau loops 'n' all

So far I've used Don's loops and the poetry of Wallace Stevens on two tracks:' World', and 'Zen Variations'.
'World' streched me in that it started out as an experiment to see if I could put together a five part harmony that worked. It seemed to, and it just kept going. However I wish I had spent more time on it. The mix needs... something.
'Zen Variations' was my idea of a walk on a busy yet empty beach. You're deep in thought, but extraneous sounds keep bleeding in from places you pass. This is the only piece I haven't added to vocally.

Hmm. A point to ponder

You can change the order of the songs that appear on your web page. This is a useful thing, but makes me wonder if it's better to leave well alone with the newest track being added at the bottom, or have the newest track at the top...
Does it really matter?

Note to self: Get a therapist.

Mental Anguish

This is the fifth song I've created/written at Tapegerm and It's short one coming in at 2.20. I was going to carry on working it, but I think it's got to where it's going... and I have to stop using the word 'Pandemic' in lyrics.

This is an amazing place really when you think about it, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience of using loops. Mental Anguish's loops ROCK... Then so have all the ones I've used. Cystem's made 'Zimbabwe' what it is and it couldn't have been written without them. The only ones that have stumped me to date have been the Rootsy Records Djembe set. Still, I live in hope.

So many loops, so little time!

My first message

This is really a test to see what 'create a message' does, and, rather like 'my first Doctors kit', I'm not entirely sure what to do with the stethoscope.
