View From A Brain Cell 03:39/192k
Just as there are audio loops, there are brain loops. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t had them. Sometimes there seems no way to turn them off. This piece is a prototype experiment for a Bradbury-oriented endeavor involving Goff and Justynn Tyme. Credits: Open Loops by Cystem, Fever Spoor, and SoLaRis. C. Goff III plays: Korg R3 Vocoder Synthesizer, Midisoft Midi Composing Tool, Voice, Hello Kitty Electronic Guitar, Sound Effects. Vocal samples from various Ray Bradbury productions.. C. Goff III
Lick My Beefheart Off, Rhino 03:18/192k
Don Van Vliet RIP 1941-2010. I quote a couple of my favorite lines from my favorite Captain Beefheart composition: "The Buggy Boogie Woogie," from the album: "Lick My Decals Off, Baby." Attempting to be true to the Captain's ideal of not contributing to the sameness of everything, this dirge detours away from the familiar while retaining certain homage elements. Buzzsaw's Rhinoceros completes the riddle with unparalleled poignancy. Credits: Open Loops by Hal McGee, Dave Fuglewicz, and Buzzsaw. C. Goff III: Korg DS-8 Synthesizer, Korg R3 Vocoder Synthesizer, Midisoft Midi Composing Tool, Voice. Genre: Family. Created: 02 Jan 2011 10:46 PM. Plays: 120 -->please comment (2).

C. Goff III
Fado Avocado 02:14/192k
Well, maybe if Salvador Dali had become enamored with Amalia Rodrigues in the 21st Century? Credits: Open Loops by Omnitechnomatrix and by Ed Drury Guest Artist. C. Goff III plays: Korg DS-8 Synthesizer, Acoustic Guitar, Midisoft Midi Composing Tool, Voice, Sound and Production Effects, including multi-layered Spanish-speaking vocals at end of song. Genre: Flamenco. Created: 28 Dec 2010 12:23 PM. Plays: 126 -->please comment (2).

C. Goff III
Crash Course 02:13/192k
Once upon a time, a light-sleeping avant garde musician lived on a major street with a billboard over his ceiling. There were times when he was driven to record his memories of dreams interrupted. Credits: 10 Years Infection Loops by Jesus Crash My Soft Synth and by Davefugle. C. Goff III plays: Korg DS-8 Synthesizer, Korg R3 Vocoder Synthesizer, Midisoft Midi Composing Tool, Voice, Balinese Flute, Sound Effects. Genre: Americana. Created: 05 Dec 2010 03:11 PM. Plays: 136 -->please comment (4).

C. Goff III
Exacerbate 03:19/192k
This music depends upon predictable patterns which reinforce the control process. This process of reinforcing control will kick the listener’s brain right out of his or her ****. Goff III plays: Korg R3 Vocoder Synthesizer, Midisoft Midi Composing Tool, Voice, Reflector Electronic Guitar, Executor, S. Genre: Dance. Created: 21 Nov 2010 02:28 AM. For Fans Of Frippish Homage... Obscured By Dolls

All sounds generated by electronic guitar or fed through electronic guitar pickups (no synthesizers). A variety of electronic sound effects, including a loop duplicator, orchestrate improvised tone phrases into ever-building washes of layered sonority. In essence, each piece starts as a minimalist drip and gradually morphs into the audio equivalent of the spray from a wide-open faucet.

The audio tools employed to create these recordings include:

Reflector Stratocaster Electronic Guitar
Electronic Guitar Sound Effect Pedals
Electronic Sound Generators (Toys, Vibrators)
Guitar Preparations (Beaver Jaw, Arrow Head, Chromium Slide, Music Box, Fishing Lure, Etc.)
Yamaha FX 500 Effects Unit
Boss RC 20X Loop Station Loop Duplicator

New Dadaist Twists For Ray Bradbury Lovers

C. Goff III and Justynn Tyme have just released a series of audio vignettes based on recombining and rearranging bits and pieces from Ray Bradbury's huge output of inspiring literature. We sampled bits from radio, television, and movie adaptations of Bradbury's works. We read and caused computer voice emulators to read brief excerpts from Bradbury's stories. We cut and pasted bits from Bradbury's recorded interviews. We combined these Bradbury samples with samples from other media sources and with original "music" to produce six recordings, each of which tells a unique story that provides listeners with a variety of interpretations. It’s ready for you if you’re ready for it. Click on the Space Kitty below, and get sucked into this Dadaist vortex...

1980's/90's Homerecording Experimental Cassettes: Ten HUGE Compositions -- Six Hour Broadcast

Lo Finest Show #18: The Huge Home Recordings Special (February 23, 2010)

Lo Finest 18

One of the things about cassette tapes that many home recording artists have taken advantage of is that they run continuously for long periods of time. Lots of avant-garde home recordings contain single compositions that run as long as 30 - 45 minutes. Excerpts from these extended pieces have received airplay, but rarely have the entire pieces been played on broadcast radio or even internet radio shows. So this show will feature several of these recordings all played in their entirety. Settle yourselves in for a six hour show!

All of these artists and more are included in the show:

Zan Hoffman, Dave Prescott, Alain Neffe,Conrad Schnitzler, Chris Phinney (Mental Anguish), Gen Ken Montgomery, Little Fyodor, Agog, Nick, Jeff Surak, Nadine Bal, Mike Hovancsek, John Hajeski, Keith Nicolay, Evan Cantor, Hal McGee, Brian Noring, Lord Litter, Mr. Ebu, Mike Shannon, Carl Howard, Dan Fioretti, C. Goff III.

The Playlist:

00:37:54 "Fugitive Squad" by Mid-Cult Matrix (from Berkelianism)

Since 2005, the Lo Finest program has been dedicated to the appreciation of homemade recordings that were made and distributed on cassette tapes during the 1980s and 90s, hosted by veteran home recording artist Charles Rice Goff III. Thousands of sonic artists were cranking out cassettes all over the world during the 80s and 90s. The whole cassette explosion took place long before people had home computers, the internet, email, mp3s, and all that. People found out about hometapers by reading various publications that offered reviews of tapes, by listening to those rare radio broadcasts that would feature home tapes, by sending a letter to a contact address that had been printed on one of the many compilation cassettes that were created and distributed during this period, etc. Most hometapers were not approaching their craft as a means to achieving economic success, and this allowed for some incredibly free thinking endeavors to be realized. Trading tapes was common, offering a sort of sonic cultural exchange that had never really been possible before the age of inexpensive home recording technology.

New Tom Sutter/Regicide Bureau Cassette Culture Podcast Posted

Lo Finest #15 - "Regicide Bureau/Next Radio/Tom Sutter Special" has just been posted. A podcast for fans of old avant garde homerecording cassette culture. This is an invitation to explore a corner of the sonic underground. Go to the link below to listen:

http://aural-innovations.com/radio/lofinest.html

General description:

Lo Finest is a program dedicated to the appreciation of homemade recordings that were made and distributed on cassette tapes during the 1980s and 90s, hosted by veteran home recording artist Charles Rice Goff III.

You can contact Charles through his Taped Rugs website at: www.geocities.com/padukem. He asks listeners to please not send him old cassettes to play on this show, because he's got more than enough to work with already. However, he is very interested in any information that you would like to share about the cassette culture.
