Blind Mime
the eagle suffers little birds to sing 05:35/256k
Buzzsaw uploaded some piano loops. One of these has been slowed and processed to achieve the bed of electronics. Merged with that is a field recording offered by Zebra Mann and the Loopy Spiderz of rain and traffic. A wall of reverb was added thereto. Further into the piece an analog bass enters haltingly, an arpeggio using and android app called Nodebeat picks it up and I play percussion on a table and a tambourine. All sorts of fun on a Saturday morning. The title is from Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. For project-18. Credits: music by bf baker. source files: piano by Buzzsaw, field recording by Loopy Spiderz. bf baker: Nodebeat android app, bass synth, wood desk, tambourine.. Genre: Abstract. Created: 04 Feb 2012 01:45 PM. Plays: 24 -->please comment (1).

Blind Mime
Metamorphosis (watching from another room) 05:15/256k
I recorded opening and closing an iron cage in an old slaughterhouse in downtown Salt Lake City. It's where I store GAJOOB submission material (it's been climatized). I found an ARP2600 app for Android that is extremely unpredictable so it's very well-suited to my tastes. Zebra Mann's bass loops have been wrung through various effects. Sources: BF Baker: field recording (iron cage), theMouth, ARP2600 app for Android, effects; Zebra Mann: bass loop; Telltaleweekly.org: Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Credits: music by BF Baker, Project-18. Genre: Spoken Word. Created: 25 Dec 2011 09:30 AM. Plays: 21 -->please comment (2).

Blind Mime
His Favourite Lego Bricks 03:58/192k
I started this one by working with 12 loops in a Tapegerm random sample pack challenge. Then I added a bunch more stuff. Credits: Music and lyric by Bryan Baker. Via the Tapegerm Collective -- Heuristics: synths; Resonan: digital error sounds; Diskhead: synth; Brandon K. Montoya: mason jar; Mental Anguish: insecticide synth; Mike McGary: synths; International Garbageman: clockwork l. Genre: Abstract. Created: 23 Feb 2011 07:51 AM. Plays: 70 -->please comment (2).

Blind Mime
The Best Advice 06:01/192k
The best advice is usually banal. If you had the constitution to collect advice you'd find it full of catchphrases and bromides -- worthless pablum. Go team, go. Credits: Music and lyric by Bryan Baker. Guitar loop by CYSTEM in CYSTM Open Loops. Synthesizers, guitar, and vocoder by Bryan Baker. Lyrics collected from Twitter.. Genre: Electronic. Created: 20 Feb 2011 02:56 PM. Plays: 69 -->please comment (2).

Blind Mime
Bob's Pulpit 08:14/192k
Spoken word samples from SubGenius.com, drum loop by Eric Hausmann, eBow and electric piano by Bryan Baker. Credits: music by Bryan Baker. Synthesizers by Mentally Anguished, random drums by Blind Mime Infection from the 10 Years Infection Project, synthesizers by Mental Anguish from the Free Loop 13 Project.. Genre: Abstract. Created: 11 Aug 2010 07:46 AM. Plays: 108 -->please comment (3).

Blind Mime
Anabell Lee 05:56/192k
David's loops just fit beautifully somehow with Hannah's vocal and Don's guitar provides spurring counterpoint. Credits: words by Edgar Alan Poe, music by Hannah Galli, Bryan Baker. Hannah Galli: vocal; Bryan Baker: acoustic guitar; David Fuglewicz: synthesizers; Don Campau: classical guitar. 10 Years Infection project and Don Campau guest artist project.. Genre: Folk Experimental. Created: 01 Jul 2010 11:45 PM. Plays: 105 -->please comment (3).

Blind Mime Blog

the Purpose Project = Awesome

I just have to say, Dave Fuglewicz's Purpose Project is Magnificent! And the Purpose album is shaping up to be an entirely unique Tapegerm experience; one that showcases the distinct beauty underlying the Tapegerm collaboration mileau. For me, it is these kinds of projects where Tapegerm proves itself to be an uncommon collective of collaborators. The kind of project where the original sources are allowed to speak through varied artistic perspectives and an album of recordings plays like a new kind of multi-movement symphony and gathers a perspicuous theme that is present in each offering. It's the kind of project that entices you to add your own stroke -- so go do it, click on the link and be a part of it.

I can't wait to hear it.

"Yes, couldn't agree more. I love Dave's loops for their ambiguity; they never fail to provide an open and inviting platform for creation."-- Jeremy Gluck (on 04/27/12 02:19:09)

LFO 2.0 for Ableton Live

One year ago, it was the first efficient LFO officially supported (by us) for Ableton Live and it has a been liked & used by a lot of people.

With LFO 2.0, you can modulate each parameters of your liveset in real time.
You only have to drop it in a MIDI track OR an AUDIO track, click on a button then click on the parameter you want to modulate and it works.

You can use built-in waveforms or even draw your custom one.

You can use the LFO 2.0 synced with the Live's transport, or totally free by setting up the frequency.

New source file loops

I thought I'd make it an early morning loop making kind of thing this morning. Clicked the record button and just starting playing with different things: toy percussion and horn things, synth sounds, acoustic guitar and a vocal thrown in. Find it all on the Blind Mime Infection open source page. Or go to Zebra Mann's "Hidden Voices" project page, where I've made 9 of the 14 new loops available for his project as well.

The eagle suffers little birds to sing

I'll be recording an album at Tapegerm starting tomorrow. This morning I was thinking about that and thinking about a title. I wandered around a few title generators on the web and found myself following a generator which had me looking at quotes on wikipedia and I came across quotes from Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. There are lots of horrid visions in Titus, meat for many a cruel noise meal of titles; but I settle myself with this: The eagle suffers little birds to sing.

The eagle suffers little birds to sing, and is not careful what they mean thereby, Knowing that with the shadow of his wings He can at pleasure stint their melody: Even so mayest thou the giddy men of Rome.

Tomorrow begins.

New loops -- Greige Travail "Mr. A Only Has A" Tapegerm K7 Tribute

We're starting a series of loop projects which will focus on homemade cassette albums of the 1980's-1990's. The first project is now open with 123 strange loops to utilize and brutalize:

Video with Tapegerm music

I'm working on a video for an inhouse company competition and using some Tapegerm music. I'm using iMovie which is not very condusive in some ways (audio is tough) to this kind of thing.

Will you let me know if this works?

Thanks!

New Open Loops

There's a new batch of loops in my Open Loop Directory for one and all activated Tapegerm artists. I've been exploring new software synths the past little while and there should be new things (more loops) forthcoming from the blind mime studio in good time.

What, for you, is the notable thing about Tapegerm collaboration?

I'm putting together an article about collaboration for GAJOOB. It's an ongoing series, actually. I wonder if you can answer a few questions here? Starting with the one above...

Thanks!

"Notable perhaps, but fulfilling indeed. For me, it's like minds and likable minds, sharing and comparing in a convenient and well-maintained public garden. A rare glassful of freshness to drink while navigating the vast sewer of internet crud. "-- C. Goff III (on 11/10/10 10:38:24)

"I can't recall when exactly I stumbled upon Tapegerm, but it brought me into the world of remixing. This in itself proved revelatory and invaluable, conceptually and creatively. The standard of the people here, their imaginative, altruistic, busy ethos and welcoming operating principle has been a great support. Artists like Dave Fuglewicz, with whom I have collaborated extensively, are truly gifted. To access and work with them freely is fantastic. Tapegerm for me is an index of possibilities. "-- Jeremy Gluck (on 11/09/10 14:31:59)

GAJOOB Call For Entries

Greetings!

GAJOOB is returning to print with a new issue coming out this winter and we're looking for recording artists who want to participate.

A big part of the upcoming GAJOOB print edition will be an mp3 CD with ~100 recordings. To be considered, just send an mp3 (192k) along with details about making it (such as inspiration, anecdotes, recording process, interesting techniques, etc.). All genres. Recent recordings or vintage, but send us just one per artist. Keep the length under 5-6 minutes. Email it to gajoob@indieonestop.com. Please include artist name, song name, credits and a website for linking. I'm hoping this fills up quickly, so get your contribution in.

Please share this notice with your creative contacts -- I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

"Good luck Bryan. I'll be curious to hear your results. As for me, since September I've been involved in the release of 5 new audio albums and one new video album. I've also restored and/or created several audio albums and one giant video production from older materials. There's just no new album in Uncle Santa's bag (nor even in James Brown's bag) for the RPM project for me. May the muses lead you into new worlds! CIII"-- C. Goff III (on 02/05/10 09:49:46)

State Shirt is looking for loops

One of my favorite artists I've run across online is State Shirt. He's currently making an album where the music consists of loops provided from outside artists (he sings and remixes). So if you're looking for another outlet for your loops in a different setting, you'll like this. You can hear the first song he's done.

He's also open sourced his music and you can download tracks for remixing. He posts some of those as well.

GO HERE.

"Whew, I haven't seen so much energy poring out of one person since I encountered Zan Hoffman. I like everything about his site and philosophy on music. Anyhow I sent him some of my loops, (created solely for this project) and I hope he can use them. Thanks for the tip Bryan."-- David Fuglewicz (on 10/10/09 16:25:02)

New DVD: Grindstone Redux (the story of the 1980s US underground music network)

Just got this in the mail the other day. It's a fantastic piece of work anyone with an interest in cassette culture will find fascinating -- and roughly half of the featured artists are Tapegerm folks!

Grindstone Redux -- The Documentary
The Story of the 1980s US Underground Music Network

Documentary Feature Film, Plus Bonus Features:

Live performance videos from the 1980s, discographies, biographies and a special tribute to Doug Walker (of "Alien Planetscapes" fame).

DVD $ 12 (includes shipping in USA) http://www.trueagemedia.com

Watch the Trailer on YouTube

Before there was an Internet or CDs or DVDs or even home computers, there was a revolution in the music industry against the standardization and monolithic grip of the major record labels in the 1980s by independent musicians and labels through the development of self-publishing.

This is that story, as told by the people who made it happen.

The revolution was fueled by technological developments in recording, reproduction and publishing. Artists took music publishing into their own hands. This phenomenon was unique to the 1980s.

Grindstone Redux includes interviews with recording artists & independent label owners.

It also includes rare vintage music videos from the 1980s, biographies and discographies.

How & Why did we create the network of the 1980s?

Where are these people now? And what are they doing?

Artists: Mikhail Bohonus (Static Effect, WarWorld, They), Don Campau (Lonely Whistle Music), Jeff Chenault (Line Level Media, Jeff Central, ITN), Christopher Elston (Curious Voltage), Charles Goff III (Taped Rugs Productions, -ing, Disism, Herd of the Ether Space), Randy Greif (Swinging Axe Productions, Static Effect, Screaming DukDuks, Max & Mel), Al Margolis (Sound of Pig, If Bwana, XTSW), Mark Lane (Editions Mark Lane), Chris Phinney (Harsh Reality Music, Cancerous Growth, mental Anguish, Skoptzies, Viktimized Karcass), Andrew Szava-Kovats (True Age Records, Ask, Data-Bank-A, Dominion, Parade of Sinners).

""GRINDSTONE REDUX\" is an Official Selection of the West Hollywood International Film Festival! Here's a link to their listing/schedule: http://westhollywood.bside.com/2009/films/grindstonereduxthe1980smusicnetwork_westhollywood2009 So if any of you are planning on being in the area on August 8... It's also being shown on a recurring basis ( 2 times a week +/-) at LTC (local cable in Lowell, MA). "-- Mental Anguish (on 07/18/09 19:15:04)

"Dig it! This is great stuff. I learned about many of these artists and others like them well after the period covered (1980-1990). This is a nice introduction to the pre-internet, pre-CD days when vinyl was king and the court jesters of cassette culture spread their sounds through the US Postal System. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this video."-- hebephrenic (on 07/16/09 00:02:35)

"I highly recommend this DVD to anyone but especially to those who aren't really familiar with the cassette revolution of the 1980's - 1990's. The subject would take many, many hours to cover in depth, but this provides a great introduction to the subject. Also, the rare videos are priceless, and worth the cost of the DVD just for them."-- David Fuglewicz (on 07/15/09 06:40:42)
