The music of Blind Mime Ensemble
Blind Mime Metamorphosis (watching from another room) 05:15/256k
I recorded opening and closing an iron cage in an old slaughterhouse in downtown Salt Lake City. It's where I store GAJOOB submission material (it's been climatized). I found an ARP2600 app for Android that is extremely unpredictable so it's very well-suited to my tastes. Zebra Mann's bass loops have been wrung through various effects. Sources: BF Baker: field recording (iron cage), theMouth, ARP2600 app for Android, effects; Zebra Mann: bass loop; Telltaleweekly.org: Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Blind Mime Cries From the Anthill 06:23/192k
I made a field recording recently of a visit to a local second hand store which you can hear in this piece which is based on the interplay between a spoken word poem found in the OurMedia Collection at archive.org and an electric piano figure from our GEMAfreie-welten cohorts. Guitars and synths are improvised against one another. The score remains unsettled. The grasshopper is mangled. The anthill is dispersed under children's feet. Tomorrow is another day. Blind Mime Order 05:18/192k

Blind Mime Impossible Signal Chatter 03:21/192k
I used a few focal points provided by Charles Rice Goff III. The anchor comes from Charlie's lead guitar melody which I mirror on upright piano and make simple variations into the piece; descending figures escort our fluxus consort. A sort of drone piano pattern enters with Charlie's fingered guitar segment midway, abruptly cut off by his ripped guitar anti-coda opening out to the original melody on piano as d'enouement. It was ritz crackers. Credits: music by bf baker and charles rice goff III; C. Blind Mime Checkin' Out the Fluxus 02:10/192k
I took one of the first fluxus fone contributions and built some loops and live improvised bass round it. My first time working with SoundHack came up with an interesting loop merging a strummed acoustic guitar with a vocal which repeats offset with the flute melody throughout the song. I also used Dan Richert's bent Casio loops, taking a few percussion hits and building the percussion track piece by piece together with a classic loop from longtime supporting tapegerm artist Mike McGary. The bloopy synth bass sounding element is me playing live improvised bass guitar through a Bass Pod effects box. Check out the fluxus! The eagle suffers little birds to sing
posted: 31 Jan 2012 08:27 AM
I'll be recording an album at Tapegerm starting tomorrow. This morning I was thinking about that and thinking about a title. I wandered around a few title generators on the web and found myself following a generator which had me looking at quotes on wikipedia and I came across quotes from Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. There are lots of horrid visions in Titus, meat for many a cruel noise meal of titles; but I settle myself with this: The eagle suffers little birds to sing.
The eagle suffers little birds to sing, and is not careful what they mean thereby, Knowing that with the shadow of his wings He can at pleasure stint their melody: Even so mayest thou the giddy men of Rome.
Tomorrow begins.

GAJOOB Call For Entries
posted: 23 Sep 2010 08:28 AM
Greetings!
GAJOOB is returning to print with a new issue coming out this winter and we're looking for recording artists who want to participate.
A big part of the upcoming GAJOOB print edition will be an mp3 CD with ~100 recordings. To be considered, just send an mp3 (192k) along with details about making it (such as inspiration, anecdotes, recording process, interesting techniques, etc.). All genres. Recent recordings or vintage, but send us just one per artist. Keep the length under 5-6 minutes. Email it to gajoob@indieonestop.com. Please include artist name, song name, credits and a website for linking. I'm hoping this fills up quickly, so get your contribution in.
Please share this notice with your creative contacts -- I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you!

One of my favorite artists I've run across online is State Shirt. He's currently making an album where the music consists of loops provided from outside artists (he sings and remixes). So if you're looking for another outlet for your loops in a different setting, you'll like this. You can hear the first song he's done.
He's also open sourced his music and you can download tracks for remixing. He posts some of those as well.

Before there was an Internet or CDs or DVDs or even home computers, there was a revolution in the music industry against the standardization and monolithic grip of the major record labels in the 1980s by independent musicians and labels through the development of self-publishing.
This is that story, as told by the people who made it happen.
The revolution was fueled by technological developments in recording, reproduction and publishing. Artists took music publishing into their own hands. This phenomenon was unique to the 1980s.
Grindstone Redux includes interviews with recording artists & independent label owners.
It also includes rare vintage music videos from the 1980s, biographies and discographies.
How & Why did we create the network of the 1980s?
Where are these people now? And what are they doing?

Blind Mime Ensemble's 2012 Tapegerm RPM Challenge
Event Date: 02/29/2012 06:00 AM
Every year, a bunch of recording artists gather on the RPM Challenge website with a goal of recording an album within the month of February. This year, we (the Blind Mime Ensemble) will be recording an album with Tapegerm source audio and that's where you come in... you can either join us by recording your own album using the source audio provided for this project, or you can get busy providing us with source audio and we guarantee to use it.
To clarify -- this project has two parts. 1) Upload audio sources and we will use it on album we are creating during February 2012. We guarantee to use everything uploaded to the project. To qualify for the project, just put "Project-18" somewhere in the credits when uploading your audio. 2) Feel free to accept the challenge yourself and create an album using these audio sources as well. Our album will be compiled and made available as free netlabel album with artwork and extensive blog notes (we'll blogging on Tapegerm.com during the creation of the album). Let's make some noise!

01 Blind Mime Ensemble "Hey, Ruth"
The original track from which all this subsequent madness ensues.
02 Cystem "Wheelin"
Blind Mime Open Loops, Don Campau Guest Artist Mix, Omnitechnomatrix Open Loops , Q-Cut Guest Artist Mix and Cystem. Being inspired by Bryan and Don's guitar loops, I went out and got myself a Line6 PODxt and an Ebow. yeehaw.

Blind Mime Open Loops, Heuristics Inc Open Loops, Halloween Mix, Kamakura for the name.
04 Hal McGee "Cobwebs"

06 International Garbageman "Sometimes (tracks wont upload)"
Loops: Blind Mime Open loops Mix: International Garbageman. Rainy summer days sitting inside making things more fun! But sometimes files neither upload or download.
07 C. Goff III "The Ballad Of William Burroughs Creek"
Featuring a few words from the late great hero himself, Blind Mime Open Loops, Hal McGee Open Loops, Arthur Loves Plastic Open Loops, Mellow Jeremy Guest Artist, & Michael Thomas Jackson Guest Artist. Composed, arranged, sung, & strummed by C. Goff III.. This is a true story which took place September 4, 2006, a few blocks from my home in Lawrence, Kansas. The accompanying photo collage was made from the few pictures mentioned in the song.
08 The Ghosts Lounge "Like Thomas Jefferson Loves HipHop I Love You Baby"
Tapegerm Resident Artist loops by DJ Get Yo Fat On Open loops and Blind Mime Open Loops, Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones, Picking Up Girls Made Easy from Hyde Park Records (1975). Thomas Jefferson seems to have been obsessed with innovation for its own sake, and I think he would have appreciated how well hip-hop represents the rhythms that result from modern innovations. There's innovation and originality in relationships too, and I've often thought that it's the small moments of private wit, like a passing, brilliantly-conceived bit of cute talk on the part of a girlfriend or wife, that should be counted among the most valuable things in life. As for the remaining texts and subtexts in the song, I leave that up to you. This is the second track from what I plan as my first all-Tapegerm album, and it's in keeping with the spirit of the first one I posted.
09 Buzzsaw The Shavings "Stealing Henriettas Gown for the Duc Philippe"
Blind Mime Open Loops Mix. Entirely excluded from the affairs of state and partaking of the conquests of the Rhine and beyond by order of discerning higher authority, the debauched Duc Philippe compensates by making a raid on wife Henrietta's bedroom in order to achieve the conquest of her favourite gown.
10 Insecta Sonic "A Fugue for 23 Freaks"
Mix Insecta Sonic: Dave Fuglewicz open loops, CYSTEM open loops, Buzzsaw open loops, Rootsy Records, Blind Mime open loops, Heuristics Inc. open loops, Mental Anguish free loop project 013, Omnitechnomatrix free loop project 013, B. Laswell, Analog Ind. A dark ambient ride through synthetic textures, frequencies and voices. Sticky, chewy, exotic and cerebral, fortified with 12 vitamins, minerals and performance enhancing compounds that won't show up when tested.
11 shaud "Hey Ruth scandinavian edit"
blind mime open loops. Some greats loops from blind mime that inspired me alot. Some of them were so great that i did not want to "destroy" them.
12 Eel Eye "Choking"
S.L.I.P. guest artist mix, Mental Anguish Open loops, Blind Mime Open Loops. A sudden inspiration drawing heavily from S.L.I.P.'s loops, and a very sliced & processed Mental Anguish sample.
13 DJ Get "That girl needs a Q Tip"
Mix by DJ Get Yo Fat On/ loops Scott Carr, Blind Mime, Q-Cut, Omnitechnomatrix, Acid Freak, Q-Cut Guest artist, Blind Mime Open loops, Omnitechnomatrix Open Loops. For my sister Bela :-)
14 Blind Mime Ensemble "Disconnect Notice"
Mental Anguish Open Loops, CYSTEM Open Loops, Buzzsaw Open Loops, Hal McGee Open Loops, Blind Mime Open Loops, Groovemaker Teknostorm Loops, Steinberg Cold Fusion Loops.. A direction I'm wandering directionless around a kind of improv composition ethic.
15 Slave Labour "Hey Ruth mmm sometimes"
Loops by Blind Mime Ensemble.
